Trial begins for Alan T. Panda

Author: Higgs Raccoon

The trial of Alan Berlin, known in the furry fandom as Alan T. Panda, has begun. Berlin, a resident of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, was arrested on May 28, 2009, on accusations that he had propositioned a fifteen-year-old boy over the internet. His arrest came after the boy’s parents found sexually explicit messages on his computer and they contacted the Attorney General’s Child Predator Unit.

Amongst furries, Berlin presented himself as a “daddyfur and caretaker” who was “looking for a babyfur to be (his) mate and companion in a long-term committed relationship.” When Berlin’s home was searched, wolf and cat-like costumes were found, and it was alleged that Berlin discussed dressing up in animal costumes and engaging in sex.

Unless there’s a huge misunderstanding about what happened, let’s please not stand behind this guy just because he’s a furry. I’m not accusing this article of that, since it seems impartial, but I can see furries supporting him here. Juts a hunch.

    • Agreed. The law is the law, and unless there’s some wealth of unknown information to exonerate him, this guy is a creep. I sincerely hope I don’t see any sort of ‘fandom solidarity’ behind this person.

The reactions I have seen most often are those of disdain or disgust. You will see this over and over when a furry makes news of a criminal nature. Most furs who react see it as a black eye to the fandom as a whole and contributing to the rest of the world’s negative image of us.

  3. Ugh. I was so hoping never to hear of this story again. Talk about your black marks on the fandom as a whole; people like this are the ones that just ruin every bit of work people have done to improve the image of ‘furry’. Lock him away and let’s shut up about it and go back to having fun like we should be, natch?
